Loyalty and love …. Two words that are full of meaning. Loyalty can be defined as faithfulness, unswerving allegiance, devotion, bond … what are you reminded of when you think of loyalty? Who do you think of when you read this word? Next let’s consider love. Love can take on many shapes, such as the love we have for family or friends; love that unites believers, and of course, God’s incomparable love. Nothing parallels the divine love God has for each of us – Unconditional, sacrificial, pure – The only perfect love.
As we ponder these words in our hearts and reflect on their meanings, let’s journey into a portion of God’s Word that provides a beautiful example of loyalty, love and redemption. The Book of Ruth, a mere 85 verses from beginning to end, is chockful of examples that we can learn from and apply to our lives. This might be a familiar book for you; even so, my prayer is that you will be blessed with something new to ponder as we take a glimpse here.
With faithlessness as the backdrop, a precious story of faithfulness emerges. This lovely book of Ruth highlights three main characters (Naomi, Ruth, Boaz) – each of whom play pivotal roles in God’s redemptive plan. If you have not read this portion of Scripture, I would encourage you to do so. Woven within this story is a cameo of two women – Naomi, who shares her faith in the one true God with Ruth, her pagan daughter-in-law. Both Naomi and Ruth faced great loss as they were widowed, yet they cling to the one true and living God through it all. Two women of different ages, different nationalities, and completely different backgrounds that God brings together and weaves into an amazing story of loyalty, love and redemption. As you read the Book of Ruth, you’ll recognize that these two women grew to be the most loyal of friends. A bond of friendship that was built on their shared faith in God, heartfelt care and concern for one another, and pure devotion to travel the journey of life together. Their souls and destinies were bound together by their loyalty, love and common faith. These women were not perfect; yet God in His infinite mercy used them in His perfect plan to bring forth Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. His intense love for each of us is so amazing.
As you reflect upon the Book of Ruth, do women in your life come to mind with whom you should share your faith? Or perhaps, there are women in your life who are fellow believers in Christ and would be blessed by a true and loyal friend, or simply some genuine words of encouragement. Or maybe you’re the one who has been praying for a true friend who shares your faith. Beloved, God knows your heart, He loves you unconditionally, and He has a perfect plan for you. With prayer and an open heart to love and serve God, He will weave together a beautiful picture with your life. Furthermore, out of our love and devotion to God, we should each seek to serve Him. He’s designed each of us with gifts and talents that can, and should be used for His glory. This may be within your own home. Yes, there is great opportunity for ministry at home as you care for those you love and share God’s love through your life, your words, your actions, and your guidance. Or, you may be called to serve Him within the church family, locally or globally. As you venture out to serve Him, may you be blessed with a season of serving alongside others who love Him as well, who have hearts to declare the good news of Christ, and who may become some of the most loyal friends you can imagine. It’s a humbling privilege to serve our Awesome God and watch as He works in the lives of others through your willingness to be used as His instrument.
As evidenced in the Book of Ruth, sharing His love with others, remaining faithful in all seasons of life, and serving Him alone can have an eternal impact on lives. God has great things ahead for Women’s Ministry at Cornerstone Church. Please pray along with me as He continues to weave together a beautiful story among the lives of our Cornerstone women as well as all women who are touched by His hand through this ministry.
