Shepherding Cornerstone Church has been one of the greatest joys of my life so it is natural for me at Christmas to give thanks for the miracles God has done to create such a healthy and vibrant faith-community. I look at the various ways in which God is at work and I see a church alive with the presence and power of God. Here are only a few of the evidences of God’s blessing:

• Last month our church campus was a joyful scene of nearly one thousand parents and children who turned out for a night of family fun at Treasures and Treats. Of greatest significance were the people who came and received the greatest Gift of all. They heard the gospel and trusted in Christ as their Savior and Lord.

• Cornerstone's Missions Management Team sent $50,000 in emergency aid to provide clean water, food and shelter to the more than one million Christian refugees fleeing from religious and ethnic persecution in Ethiopia. The MMT also allocated about $40,000 to train pastors who are planning churches in difficult places like refugee camps and embattled Darfur.

• Each week our youth team ministers to hundreds of students both inside and outside the church. Local high schools and middle schools have welcomed our youth ministers on campus to conduct Bible Studies and Christian club events. The growth of our youth ministry through the investment into a larger staff of dedicated leaders has paid off in eternal rewards. The next generation is here!

• Thanks to your generosity, the Christmas Shoebox Drive for needy children throughout the world exceeded any previous record. This year Cornerstone will send 922 boxes of love and friendship to Samaritan’s purse and New Missions. Inside each box are gifts and a message of salvation through faith in Jesus, God’s greatest Gift.

• Our Live-stream broadcasts are reaching thousands beyond our doors in 48 states and many countries. Each week I receive emails from viewers asking for prayer and thanking God for how the messages have blessed them.

• In July, God opened the door for us to partner with the Billy Graham Association for pastoral training in Cambodia. Despite a very tight schedule, God enabled us to fund the translation and publishing of two pastoral training books into Khmer and send Pastor Terry Miller and Chris Lapel to Phnom Penh and Battambang, Cambodia.

• In October, Cornerstone’s men’s ministry took a giant leap forward when Pastor Terry was tasked with leading the men’s team in re-envisioning and reinvigorating this vital ministry. There is already evidence that our men are ready to step forward. 300 men attended the breakfast where Pastor Jerry spoke about being the spiritual head of their house.

• After years of vision, prayer and pastoral teamwork, Cornerstone School of Ministry officially launched this month. The preparation of future generations of Christian leaders in Long Beach and the surrounding area is now a reality. September 2019 will begin with the first class of future leaders. This strategic venture is an investment in young leaders who will shape the next generations for Christ.

• Dan Wendell, Missions Pastor, was welcomed to the team of gifted Cornerstone pastors to lead our growing local and global missionary footprint. This needed addition to our staff means that we can have even greater impact for the cause of Christ.

• In January, Pastor Jerry will lead Habtamu, Dennis Neal and Pastor Dan Wendell as a team to Ethiopia. The purpose of the mission is to train the national leaders, regional leaders, coaches and facilitators of the Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church who will in turn train their 15,000 pastors using Pastoring the Flock of God and The Christian Worker’s Handbook. This movement of pastoral training is historic in the world of missions. And it is solely supported and led by Cornerstone Church. This is the first time in history that so many pastors are being trained simultaneously. Only God could have created this great enterprise.

• There are so many more evidences of God’s blessing that it would fill volume after volume.

So this Christmas, let’s be filled with wonder like the shepherds that first Christmas.

When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they went with haste." Luke 2:15-16

We are witnesses to the miraculous workings of God at Cornerstone. Surely we ought to make haste to worship Him and rejoice to do His will. Join me this Christmas in giving God glory for all He is doing at Cornerstone. And let’s do it with a joyful heart.
